At a ceremony held Thursday evening, December 10, at the UCSB Faculty Club, Dos Pueblos senior Hardeep Ahdi was named the 2009 Goleta Teen of the Year. The mission of the Goleta Teen of the Year Community Service Award Program "is to provide Goleta-area teens, who have given selflessly and abundantly to our community, an opportunity to be recognized, challenged, encouraged and ultimately rewarded for their charitable contributions. The emphasis is on ‘quality over quantity,’ as well as passion and consistency in community service time spent." The annual competition, hosted by the Goleta Noontime Rotary, began in October with a field of 68 candidates. Hardeep was one of five DP students who were named among the seven finalists. Other DP students honored Thursday night included Paige Crane, Suvini Jayasekera, Nina Marchiando and Matthew McClenathen, all seniors.
