Counseling Corner -- April 2010 PDF Print E-mail

Two months to go before graduation, promotions, and intake of the Class of 2014. It’s been exciting. We have met with the Frosh, Sophs, and Juniors – giving them information about Grad Requirements, post high school plans, College Enrollment process, Importance of Activities, and have taken all of their course requests. Please know that we are meeting with students and their parents right up until the end of May, and course selections can be modified until that time. Students will get a Course Request Confirmation printout in May, and we expect students to inform us of mistakes. They will get another in the summer, and they will have another chance to notify us of corrections to be made. After school starts on August 23, it will be difficult to change. Please read all of your newsletters, notices in the mail, and email delivered through Naviance.  Students met in the PAC and copies of all presentations are available online at www.dphs.org – counseling -  Class of 2011 Spring Assembly (pick class year). We gave them paper instructions of the most important parts as well, including process on how to take SBCC assessments and how to sign up for SBCC for fall or summer. Please be sure they come to Charger Check-in on August 19! Plan your vacations accordingly. Mailings about RMASS’ ACT and SAT prep were sent for dates listed below – just in time for April & May tests for Juniors. Please note: Sign ups for SBCC summer school are postponed to May 17.

Seniors had a meeting with SBCC and presentations were given on how to apply for summer and fall, including assessment and orientation process.  GPA Verifications were sent for State/Federal funding for all who gave us the forms – an impressive amount! Seniors are sharing their impressive list of college acceptances, in spite of the narrowing ranges of acceptance criteria and reduction in offerings due to budget constraints. By this time, all students should have received their acceptance status. Please contact admissions if you have not heard.  Few colleges are taking applications at this time – CSU Dominguez Hills, Cal Maritime and Bakersfield may still be considering and some private schools. Look at the dates below for SBCC enrollment.
